Young Farmer Network and The Carrot Project are partnering up to host a 2-part farm financials series. We know that farmer finances are kind of intimidating… but it really doesn’t have to be if you have the right tools – just like the right-sized hoe for those direct seeded carrots or a sturdy winch to pull up your oyster cages.
We’ll be sharing some food together at the end of class, so whip up a small dish or snack to share. (This is not necessary if you don’t have time or capacity! We’ll have plenty to share.)
In this workshop, we will explore recordkeeping for improved farm management decision-making. We will briefly review bookkeeping basics at the beginning to get us started. Learn about useful ways of organizing and understanding your farm’s financial information, review how to utilize your financial statements, and gain planning tools to increase farm profitability and farmer satisfaction.
Participants will leave with an understanding of:
– Organizing records for management decision-making, taxes, and loans
– Record keeping systems: options and practical implementation
– How to create, organize, and read the three financial statements
– How to begin analyzing these statements to support decision-making and increase profitability and resiliency
Important:
Workshop participants will have priority registration for the second part of this workshop series, called Building Farm Resilience: Scenario Planning and Capital Access. We will be addressing how to decide when and why to utilize a loan or grant, and how to obtain the best kind of capital for your needs. More details to come!

El Young Farmer Network y The Carrot Project han colaborado para crear una serie de educación financiera de 2 partes. Sabemos que las finanzas agrícolas son un poco intimidantes… pero realmente no tiene por qué ser así, si tienes las herramientas adecuadas. Algo así como utilizar la azada del tamaño adecuado para esas zanahorias, o un cabrestante resistente para levantar tus jaulas de ostras.
Compartiremos algo de comida juntos al final de la clase, y usted tiene la opción de traer algo para compartir. (¡Esto no es obligatorio, tendremos mucho para compartir!).
En este taller, revisaremos brevemente los conceptos básicos de contabilidad (para aquellos que recién están comenzando) y luego exploraremos los fundamentos del mantenimiento de registros financieros para mejorar la toma de decisiones de gestión agrícola. Aprenda sobre formas útiles de organizar y comprender la información financiera de su granja y de usar fácilmente los tres estados financieros para aumentar la viabilidad de negocios agrícolas.
Los participantes se irán con una comprensión de:
– Organizar registros para la toma de decisiones gerenciales, impuestos y préstamos
– Sistemas de mantenimiento de registros; Opciones e implementación práctica
– Cómo crear, organizar y leer los tres estados financieros
